Bacteria: Friend or Foe
The author, Reglina Baily of Bacteria: Friend or Foe claims that there are goods and bad in bacteria. The main idea of the article, Friend or Foe is to inform the general public that bacteria are not always harmful. For example in the article it said (“In a mutualism relationship, both the bacteria and the host receive their benefits. For example there are several kinds of bacteria that live inside the mouth, nose, throat, and intestines of human and animals. These bacteria receive a place to live and feed while keeping other harmful microbe from taking up residence.”) In other words bacteria lives inside a person and does not let harmful microbes take up room inside a person’s body therefore not allowing that person to have serious illness. The authors view point was clearly stated in the article as well, (“When all facts are considered bacteria are more helpful then harmful.”) I would also consider this article not slanted, because the author wasn’t only talking about the helpful sides of the bacteria it was also talking about the harmful sides as well. For example, (“A parasitic relationship is one which the bacteria benefit while the host is harmed. Pathogenic parasitic, which cause disease do so by resisting the host’s defenses defenses and growing at the expense of the host these produce poisonous substances which are responsible for symptoms that occur with an illness.”) I think they also used strong connotations like the tittle, Bacteria Friend or Foe, I thought it was strong connotation because the author is considering the bacteria as helpful organisms to have to keep you alive and dangerous ones as well. I would consider this a good source to find out the pros and cons of Bacteria I do so because the author of this source, Regina Baily holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Emory University, in Atlanta, GA. Also this source is up to date. (2012). So I would consider this source reliable.
